What is it?
AIR POLISHING
In recent years, a shift has occurred toward air-polishing devices as an attractive alternative to traditional manual and ultrasonic scalers. Compressed air containing water and abrasive powder particles, like erythritol, are sprayed onto the tooth surface using an air-polishing device, removing biofilm more efficiently, in less time, while improving patient comfort.
Why is it beneficial?
As you are aware, the main factor for dental caries, periodontal and peri-implant infections relates to dental biofilm. Manual and ultrasonic scalers are designed for hard deposits, not necessarily soft deposits like biofilm. As the air polisher mixture is applied, it removes surface stains, plaque, tartar, and bacterial or food deposits stuck in, around, and between the teeth. It can also be sprayed beneath the gum line to eradicate disease-causing bacteria without harming the gingival tissue. Additionally, Air-polishing therapy is the most effective treatment for cleaning implant surfaces during biofilm removal.
How can I use it?
The Air Polishing machine is available during your regular cleanings as per recommendation by your hygienist, or upon request on a first come first serve basis. Please be advised, that there may be a small additional fee to use this advanced technology, providing you with a superior cleaning experience.
